Badminton

A huge well done to the boys and girls of the Clyst Vale Key Stages 3 and 4 badminton squads. Three teams qualified for the Devon School Finals in Paignton on Wednesday representing the best schools in the Exeter and District Partnership. The Key Stage 3 boys, led by Will Blum and Max Walker in singles, played with flair and energy against schools from across the county. Their efforts were supported by the agile Olly Bunkham and the skilled Will Jermey. Finishing 4th from seven schools was a good performance, however, in Key Stage 4 the two teams excelled, attaining the best results ever at the finals. The girls won bronze although finishing on equal points with the winning schools, but placed third on games won. Mya was a great captain, winning most of her singles despite injury and Dulcie contributed similar successes in her singles matches. Multi-talented Emily Blatchford and Alice Courtier were outstanding in their doubles and Alice’s defense led to some brilliant rallies.

The older boys were led by Edwin Choi who showed why he is the school’s number one. Playing in a match versus the highly ranked player from Devonport High School for boys the quality of play caused other staff and students to turn and watch and admire. Sam Terrett was also on top form with the help of Ollie Manning and the live wire Robin Tooze. The manner of play, mixing superb shot play with gallant defence, drew praise from other teachers and included one of the rallies of the tournament versus Plymouth Academy. A fantastic day of badminton by the Clyst Vale squads!
