GCSE Results Day
Well done to Year 11 ! Students collected their results on Thursday 23rd August, and are well set to move on to the next stage of their education. There were some excellent individual achievements: Alex Durston (7.5A*, 3A and 1.5B), Ellie Davis (5.5A*, 5A, 1.5B), Nicole Haizleden (4.5A*, 3A, 3B), Anton Stephan (4A*, 4A, 4B), Ed Straw (4A*, 2A, 5B), Frazer Loveman (3A*, 9A), Megan Stagg (3A*, 5.5A, 3.5B), Oli Self (2.5A*, 6A, 3.5B), Bethany Howarth (2A*, 6.5A, 2B), and Tom Hart (2A*, 5.5A, 2B). Overall, 1 in 8 students achieved at least 6 A grades among their results. However, we are a comprehensive school, and we have some great individual performances to celebrate from young people of all abilities, some of whom have defied illness and serious family issues to earn their grades. We’re very pleased that 72% of students achieved 5+A*-C grades, 95% achieved 5+A*-G grades, and that no student left Clyst Vale without a GCSE qualification. The gap between girls and boys’ results has narrowed, and the percentage achieving EBacc has increased. As last year, 77% of all the grades students achieved were at least a C. So, in most respects the 2012 results are much the same or even slightly better than 2011. Unfortunately, we have been affected to an extent by the raising of grade boundaries (a national issue), and are not in a position to report the 5+A*-C (with English and Maths) benchmark until we have completed a number of re-marks and appeals. However, Results Day is about students, not statistics. Very well done to Year 11 for all your hard work and effort, and best wishes to you all for your future studies (especially those of you coming back into the Sixth Form !!).
