Showcase Sharpens Sweeney Expectations
I had a lovely evening on Wednesday at the BTEC Performance students’ Musical Showcase held at Broadclyst Parish Church. The event is organised by the students as part of their course, and their planning, vision of labour, organisation, publicity and general event management is evaluated and assessed.
However, as a paying customer (proceeds to Cancer Research UK), I was just able enjoy the music and singing. There was a mix of musicals and more contemporary music (from Phantom of the Opera, Chicago and Wicked, to the Cranberries, Linkin Park and Bruno Mars), solos and ensembles, and congratulations to Abby, Georgia, both Lewises, Sam, Sean and Fran (who also did front of house and compered!). Two of the solos were ‘Green Finch and L:innet Bird’ and ‘My Friends’, both from the forthcoming production of Sweeney Todd, both sung brilliantly, and both beginning to build up the excitement…..
