Deep Learning Day!

On Tuesday’s Deep Learning Day, Year 12 and 13 took part in team building activities; Year 12 also attended Learn2Live (a presentation organised by Devon and Cornwall Emergency Services focusing on road safety) and Year 13 had support with their UCAS applications and plans for next year.

The team building activities were created with inspiration from the TV programme ‘Taskmaster’. Students had to complete a series of tasks as a team; the most significant being a task they had to complete before the day, which was to raise as much money as possible for a charity of their choice. We were particularly impressed with the way in which all of the students threw themselves into the charity task and as a whole the sixth form has raised over £1200 for the following charities: Macmillan Cancer Support, MIND, Save the Earth and Rethink Mental Health.

Special mention must go to Mia Hart in 12HP, who had her head shaved to raise money for Macmillan. With the support of her tutor group, she has currently raised just over £1000, which is an incredible achievement and demonstrates real courage, particularly as she was in front of practically the whole school whilst it was being done!

It’s been a great start to the year and these efforts reveal what an outstanding group of young people we have in the sixth form. I hope everyone has a lovely half term – and I look forward to the rest of the year.
