Authorial debut for former student
It’s always a great pleasure to hear how well students are doing after they’ve left Clyst Vale so I was really pleased to hear from Zoe Targett who’s had her first novel ‘Unbound: A Siren’s Quest for Freedom’ published this year. It is a fantasy story aimed at young adults.
Zoe attended Clyst Vale and left in 2002 after her GCSEs. She got a job straight away working with children, eventually becoming a nursery nurse. Now, nearly 17 years later, she is a published author.
She writes:
‘I loved English even before coming to Clyst Vale, I wasn’t so enamoured with all the Shakespeare and the like, but to this day I still recognise their importance to the literary world.’
‘As for story writing, I’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember. I remember one story I wrote for free writing as part of my English class, in fact, I still have it to this day. It was story about bullying gone wrong (it was only fiction, I promise) but as soon as my teacher had finished marking it and gave it back, I rewrote it and added a fantasy element to it. I didn’t need to do it, but I wanted to, just for fun. The story is still incomplete, but I would like to revisit it one day.’
We have so many talented writers at Clyst Vale that I’m sure Zoe won’t be our only literary alumnus.
