Exeter and District Cross-County Round 1

Superb weather over the last few weeks had dried the normally muddy Blundells course to a hard packed path that the Clyst Vale squad took full advantage of. First on course was Ruthie who ran with a metronomic and measured approach. She kept up with the leaders until the last lap, but qualified 8th out of a huge field of 100 other girls. Next Noah and Will hit the fields and whilst Will ran home in a personal best of 20th, it was Noah who battled with the leader right to the end coming in a superb second. With the sun shining four of our year 10 girls lined up at the start. Newcomers Esmae and Rosie, along side three year veterans Willow and Kate. All four girls ran in to qualify with Kate gliding in as first of the Clyst Vale athletes followed by a very determined Esmae, before Willow and Rosie soon after.
The last race brought our Jasper and expectations were high. He was tracked closely on the first of the four laps, but by the second he opened up a gap and the rest of the field gradually faded. A strong run and a fine win. Brilliant running from all the Clyst Vale students, although the next round in two weeks time will no doubt be a muddier affair.
